Por qué Grimentz-Zinal está hecho para el freeride

Grimentz-Zinal reúne casi todos los ingredientes de un destino de freeride excepcional. Buenas nevadas de media, temperaturas frías en invierno, orientaciones variadas y mucho terreno de alta montaña hacen que haya nieve de calidad durante toda la temporada.

El terreno es igual de variado. Bajadas de polvo, esquí entre árboles los días de nevada, caras abiertas, líneas técnicas y empinadas y descensos de alta montaña: hay algo que explorar en casi cualquier dirección.

Y cuando el mejor esquí está más allá de los remontes, una travesía corta abre todavía más terreno. Con las condiciones adecuadas, subiendo relativamente poco se sale de la estación y se entra en una montaña completamente distinta.

Más de 24.000 hectáreas solo en Val d’Anniviers

Val d’Anniviers ocupa más de 24.000 hectáreas, lo que convierte a Anniviers en uno de los municipios más grandes de Suiza. Buena parte de ese territorio es alta montaña, rodeada de cumbres que superan los 4.000 metros.

Grimentz-Zinal es el punto de partida, pero nuestros días de freeride no terminan donde acaba la estación. Con material de travesía se abre una red extraordinaria de valles, crestas y collados de alta montaña.

Según las condiciones y el objetivo del día, podemos quedarnos cerca de los remontes, meternos más adentro de Val d’Anniviers o tirar hacia valles y macizos vecinos. Distintas altitudes, orientaciones y terrenos nos dan un abanico enorme de posibilidades durante todo el invierno.

No nos limita un plano de pistas. Dónde vamos lo deciden la nieve, el tiempo, el riesgo de aludes, tu nivel y hasta dónde quieras adentrarte en la montaña.

¿Hace falta experiencia en freeride?

No hace falta experiencia previa en freeride, pero sí ser un esquiador sólido que se maneje en cualquier pista marcada. Fuera de pista se exige más, y llegar con el nivel adecuado es lo que permite disfrutarlo con seguridad.

Si es tu primera vez fuera de pista, tu guía te irá metiendo poco a poco en el terreno de freeride y te ayudará a coger técnica y confianza en nieve cambiante.

Quien ya tenga experiencia puede aprovechar el día para ir más lejos, buscar terreno más exigente o combinar remontes con travesía y objetivos más ambiciosos fuera de pista.

Los años recorriendo Val d’Anniviers se notan a la hora de elegir dónde esquiar. La calidad de la nieve cambia muchísimo según la altitud, la orientación, el viento y la temperatura, y saber cómo reacciona la montaña a cada situación abre opciones que de otro modo pasan desapercibidas.

Nuestros guías usan ese conocimiento para mirar más allá de las líneas evidentes y elegir el terreno que mejor combina nieve, experiencia y seguridad ese día.

Un día hecho a tu medida

Un día de freeride no tiene itinerario fijo. Tenemos en cuenta tu nivel, tu forma física, tu experiencia fuera de pista y qué quieres sacar de tu tiempo en la montaña.

Puede ser buscar polvo cerca de los remontes, trabajar tu técnica de freeride, ponerse las pieles para llegar a terreno más tranquilo o salir a por un objetivo más grande. El día se construye alrededor de ti y de las condiciones.

Seguridad y decisiones en montaña

Guiar bien en freeride va tanto de decidir como de esquiar. El tiempo, el manto de nieve y el riesgo de aludes se valoran continuamente a lo largo del día, y el plan cambia si la montaña nos da información nueva.

Nuestro objetivo es encontrar buen esquí tomando decisiones meditadas sobre terreno, itinerario y exposición. La seguridad está siempre en el centro, sin quitarle nada a la aventura.

We were a group of mixed fitness but all keen to experience the off piste skiing Grimentz had to offer, and Stefano tailored our day superbly to ensure we were all having a good time. You don’t need previous off-piste experience, but you should be a confident skier who is comfortable skiing all marked slopes in a ski resort. Your guide will adapt the terrain and pace to your ability, from your first experience in powder to more technical and challenging freeride lines.

No two freeride days are exactly the same. Your guide will consider the snow, weather, avalanche conditions, your skiing level and your goals before choosing the best terrain for the day. Depending on conditions, this might mean lift-accessed powder, short ski tours, longer backcountry routes or a combination of them.

Yes. Avalanche safety equipment — transceiver, shovel and probe — is required for all our freeride days. We also recommend ski touring equipment, as it gives us greater flexibility to access the best terrain and snow conditions. An avalanche airbag backpack is also highly recommended.

Yes. Our days can range from lift-accessed freeride with minimal walking to ski touring and longer backcountry adventures. Touring equipment gives us access to considerably more terrain and allows us to search for the best snow away from the main ski areas.

Absolutely. If you are already a confident piste skier, your first freeride experience can be a great introduction to skiing beyond the marked slopes. Your guide will select appropriate terrain and introduce you progressively to off-piste technique, terrain awareness and mountain safety.

Yes. We create personalised multi-day freeride and ski touring trips in Valais, across the Alps and internationally. Trips can be designed around a specific destination or built around the type of terrain and experience you are looking for.

Our home bases are Val d’Anniviers and Saas-Fee in Valais, Switzerland, where we offer private freeride guiding throughout the winter. We also organise multi-day trips across the Alps and personalised freeride and ski touring adventures in destinations around the world.

Conditions come first. Our guides use their local knowledge, weather and snow information, avalanche conditions and your skiing ability to decide where the best options are each day. Being flexible allows us to make the most of the mountains while keeping safety at the heart of every decision.
